Spring Fest - behind the scenes

Saturday night's Spring Fest left the people who went with a few unanswered questions: where was Jadakiss, and why was there a delay of over an hour before Snoop Dogg took the stage?Jadakiss, who signed a contract last week to play at Spring Fest, dropped out of the concert late Friday afternoon, according to Student Association officials."We got a signed contract with Jada, and everything was good," said SA Vice President Dela Yador.

SA budget passes with big hike for entertainment

The Student Association Senate approved SA's $2.8 million budget for 2005-2006 on Friday by a unanimous vote of 15-0.As promised last semester, clubs received a 10 percent increase and entertainment a 45 percent hike over the amount they received last year.

New book revitalizes women in shamanism

Trained and initiated as a shaman in highland Guatemala by a K'iche' Mayan couple in the mid-1970s and the granddaughter of an Ojibwe midwife and herbalist, Barbara Tedlock is no ordinary anthropology professor.In her fifth book, "The Woman in the Shaman's Body, Reclaiming the Feminine in Religion and Medicine," the distinguished teaching professor aims to put women and the feminist dimension back into shamanism."This is a book that puts women back into spirituality and science," Tedlock said.

Modern styles mix with tradition at Japan Nite

With the doors at Alumni Arena set to open for Spring Fest, the doors of the Student Union Theater opened to the rhythms of Japanese culture Saturday as Japanese SA held its second annual Japan Nite.The performance was divided into several different sketches, all of which were related to the show's central storyline about a Japanese princess and her bodyguard's trip from the past into the modern day.Shintaro Yamazaki, president of Japanese SA, said Saturday's cultural event was a sequel to last year's inaugural Japan Nite.Especially with the buzz generated by Spring Fest, Yamazaki said he was happy with the turnout."We sold over 250 tickets," said Yamazaki, a junior business major.
