Buffalo FBI chief explains Lackawanna Six

9/11. WMD. Lackawanna Six.These three phrases are synonymous with the Bush administration's war on terror, and terms that are instantly identifiable, but not always easily explained. The story surrounding the mysterious six men who were arrested in Lackawanna, a suburb just south of Buffalo, was explained to a new degree when one of Buffalo's top FBI agents spoke to UB alumni Thursday at the UB Alumni Luncheon Speaker Series."Lackawanna Six and Beyond" featured Edward Needham, a senior agent at the FBI Buffalo Joint Terrorism Task Force, and detailed what law enforcement has learned from its investigation leading to the highly-publicized prosecution of the six Lackawanna men involved in terrorism-related activities."The work has not ceased.

Despite all the talk of tuition hikes and rational plans, the cost of attending a SUNY school could quite possibly remain the same through 2007.In the latest budget proposal on the table, SUNY is proposing increasing funding for the statewide system in the 2006-2007 school year without increasing tuition. If it goes through, the money for SUNY schools would go up by $211.3 million, raising the total funding to $2.3 billion, for the next fiscal year.

'Jarhead' worlds apart from typical war film

"Jarhead" is a war movie without an enemy. Marines are playing football, masturbating, betting on scorpion fights and occasionally shooting at rocks to prepare for the combat they will seemingly never see.The war film doesn't match the epic battle scenes in "Saving Private Ryan" or "Platoon," but it doesn't have to.What it lacks in a visual depiction of war is replaced with an adequate storyline and subtle political critiques.

Every UB student wants professors who are interesting, helpful and clear, but as many students discover each semester, top-notch faculty can be hard to find. The release of CourseEval3, a Web-based evaluation tool, may make it easier for students to separate the wheat from the chaff of mediocre professors.Developed by Academic Management Systems, a company located in the off-campus Baird Research Park, the new CourseEval3 program generates online questionnaires that students can fill out at the end of each semester.
