Eight students hospitalized; police believe marijuana is the cause

Saturday night and early Sunday morning, eight students were sent to the hospital after University Police (UPD) responded to multiple medical emergencies involving students suspected to be smoking marijuana. UB Spokesperson John Della Contrada said the students were released from the hospital this morning. In a UB Alert, UPD said the victims experienced trouble breathing, dizziness, nausea and general disorientation.

Programming future securers of the cyber world

Sitting in front of a computer for six to eight hours may be unacceptable for most average college students, but for some UB cyber security competitors, it's not only natural - it's necessary. The UB Network Defense is a faculty- and student-run class that trains students to fight against cyber attacks.

Living in his honor

Kevin Hughes knows what it means to heal. As a 4-year-old boy, he was once too scared to come out from underneath a table - unwilling to be separated from his mother or father so he could attend an interview for a gifted kindergarten program. But the scared boy Hughes once was isn't the man who steps onto the pitcher's mound today as a senior on the baseball team. He has grown up and endured things he couldn't hide from.

Senate holds second meeting of semester

On Saturday, in its second meeting of the semester, the Student Association Senate discussed the future of an LSAT (Law School Admission Test) tutoring program, the Student-Wide Judiciary (SWJ) and the derecognition of the Arab American Association of Engineers and Architects (AAAEA). Dan Ovadia, a senior business major, proposed the creation of a low-fee, 15-person LSAT tutoring program in conjunction with Mock Trial.

Weather continues to affect UB utilities

On Jan. 30, the Internet connection at UB, Canisius College and Daemen College was down for more than six hours. Chief Information Officer Brice Bible said UB is still investigating the cause of the outage - which lasted from about 3-10 a.m.
