UB Bulls open MAC play with loss to Akron

Akron (12-2, 1-0 MAC) defeated Buffalo 75-71 in Alumni Arena Tuesday night in front of an announced crowd of 2,226. The win ends Buffalo’s eight-game conference winning streak from last season, which included a win over Akron in the MAC Tournament Semifinals.

VCU defeats UB Bulls 90-69

VCU (6-5) defeated the Bulls (6-6) 90-69 at the Siegel Center in Richmond, Virginia Tuesday. The 21-point loss against the Rams was the third time in five games that the Bulls have lost by 20 points or more. The Bulls have one more game left before beginning Mid-American Conference play.


Iowa State junior guard Monte Morris is one of the challenges the Cyclone's lineup will present to the Bulls on Monday. The Spectrum scouted the Iowa State players to watch.

Things aren’t going to get any easier for the men’s basketball team. On Saturday, the Bulls (4-4) lost to the reigning national champions, No. 7 Duke, 82-59 in Cameron Indoor Stadium and it won’t be the last time this week Buffalo faces elite talent. On Monday night, the Bulls continue their road trip with a stop at No. 5 Iowa State (6-0) at the Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.

UB Bulls defeat Vermont, claim Springfield Bracket Championship

Four months out from the Mid-American Conference Tournament, the Buffalo men’s basketball team added another tournament championship to its résumé.  The Bulls (3-2) defeated Vermont (2-3) 77-71 in Uncasville, Connecticut Sunday to help claim the Springfield Bracket Championship of the Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic. After blowout losses to Old Dominion and St.

St. Joseph’s defeats UB Bulls 89-67

On Wednesday, the Bulls (1-2) fell to St. Joseph’s (3-0) 89-67 at Hagan Arena in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Bulls are now 0-2 in the 2015 Hall of Fame Tipoff Classic, with two losses to St. Joseph’s and Old Dominion in which it allowed 166 points.

Shannon Evans taken off UB’s Alumni Arena wall

The photo of Evans, who transferred to Arizona State to join former men’s basketball head coach Bobby Hurley, was replaced with the image of former Bulls forward Xavier Ford sometime Monday or during this past weekend. Ford graduated from UB last semester.

The new kids on the block: UB Bulls newest players

Two true freshmen and a junior college transfer combined to score 55 points in the men’s basketball team’s first and only preseason game against Daemen College last week. And they are less than half of Buffalo’s new players this season. The Bulls’ roster is filled with new players after an offseason of turnover with the transfer of star point guard Shannon Evans, the expulsion of MAC Player of the Year Justin Moss and the graduation of impact seniors like Will Regan and Xavier Ford.

The Spectrum sports editors shared their opinions on whether or not sophomore guard Shannon Evans, who was released from his UB scholarship and is speaking with other schools about transferring, will leave UB's basketball program.
