Local Restaurant Week kicked off this past Monday in an effort to celebrate Western New York culture, strengthen the Buffalo community, and stimulate the local economy, according to localrestuarantweek.com. When WNY began the annual event in the spring of 2009, there were 60 participating operators and, just three years later, that number has increased to around 200.

There were some odd party guests in the room: a sea captain hunting schizophrenics, a man running from the Stay Puft marshmallow man, a nurse fainting at the sight of blood, a host desperately trying to figure out just who is in their house, and an audience laughing at the mayhem. All around her she could smell the mouth-watering food – the steak, the french fries, the pasta. She could almost taste it – almost. It was surrounding her, enveloping her. Her friends talked. She smiled at the right cues and nodded at all the right times. She perfected her ability to make people believe she was listening to their every word, but she didn't hear a single one– she was stuck inside of her own head.

Shards of shrapnel grind against their skin as they try to claw over the dead bodies of their comrades, past blown-apart bodies and mutilated corpses. They're surrounded; they're losing too much blood. They know it's all over even before the enemy solider steps in front of them.

The Buffalo Chips, UB's all male a capella group, live by their motto: "entertaining crowds since 1995." From performances at UB to competitions in New York City, the Chips have been singing their way across the state.
