People who don't like football just don't see the beautiful storylines that I, and the rest of the fans, see. Let's take the AFC West for example and relate it to the hit movie "The Karate Kid." You have the reigning champs, the Oakland Raiders, who play the part of the Cobra Kai with owner Al Davis as that creepy sensei guy and Rich Gannon as that blonde punk Johnny. On the flip side, we have the underdogs in the Kansas City Chiefs with head coach Dick Vermeil as Mr. Miyagi and Priest Holmes as Danny LaRusso. The storylines are intense.

In "The Sharpest Point" column in Wednesday's edition of The Spectrum, The Sports Desk referred to our reality-dating series "Spectrum Blind Date." Previously, we had been informed that during the series one of the participants was involved in a relationship. We have since discovered this is untrue, and The Sports Desk sincerely apologizes to anyone who may have been offended by the piece. It was a classless move on our part, and once again, we apologize.

All right, the jig is up, Mike Martz. I know what's going on with you and your St. Louis Rams. Somewhere back in 2001 Martz must have made a bet with someone saying that he could coach the Rams to the Super Bowl in a drunken stupor. I've always believed the guy was drunk with some of the decisions he's made, but the kicker came this weekend when I saw him celebrating St. Louis' game-winning field goal in overtime. The man looked exactly like someone does when they sink the last cup in beer pong after trailing for most of the game. It was a dead on drunken celebration. I know what you're up to, Martz.

What happened on Saturday night at UB Stadium was an atrocity on all fronts. Here John Norman and Jim Byrne let their opinions be heard.

In an attempt to play off of God himself, ESPN.com Page 2's Bill Simmons, I recorded my own little diary of the events that took place this past weekend on the UB football trip to Iowa with my cohort, John Norman.

PISCATAWAY, NJ - All week leading up to the season opener, UB football head coach Jim Hofher harped that all that you needed to compete in Division I college football was the ability to play "good football."

Okay, so maybe paying a quarter for a beer on Thursdays at Molly's, the "no-wiper," and flipping the bird to hicks with confederate flag bumper stickers on the highway are some of the most enjoyable things in life, but nothing compares to what happens this weekend.

It seems like yesterday that I walked into Philosophy 101 at 8 a.m. on a Monday morning in late August of 2000. Somehow, someway, I stepped into some sort of time warp that has taken me to the year 2003. It's just so hard to believe...

As the 2003 college football draws nearer, I had the chance to ask Buffalo Bulls head coach, Jim Hofher, a few questions about the upcoming season. As you will notice, "playing good football" comes up a lot and seems to be the catchphrase of the 2003 season. But saying things and performing them are two very different things. With that said however, the Bulls are more experienced this year with 17 returning starters, meaning that if they can advance on the bright spots they showed last season, they will be very capable of playing this "good football." Until Saturday night's game comes to a conclusion though, the jury is still out.

Out of all the teams at UB, there is no question that the women's basketball team was the most successful in its 2002-03 campaign.

Not unlike their football cohorts, the UB men's basketball team was dubbed the "Baby Bulls" in the 2002-03 season. And once again, not unlike the football Bulls, the basketball team also struggled through an extremely rough season.

When new head coach Jim Hofher's first season came to a close in 2001, the Bulls had collected three wins on the season and a glimmer of optimism had appeared on campus for the following season.

I don't want to jinx anything, but I am pretty sure that it is safe to say that the Bills will win the AFC East next season. Just take a look at the rest of the competition: The New York Jets now play in Washington, so you can scratch them out. Miami's best player Ricky Williams has been riding elephants all summer long (seriously, just check out runrickyrun.com), so it is obvious that his head is not in the game. And besides, if Jay Fiedler, Mr. Craptastic himself, is still the starting quarterback, well then that is just pathetic. The only team left to worry about is those damned New England Patriots. But hopefully the next whippersnapper that Demi Moore goes after is Tom Brady. If that's the case, then winning the division will be as easy as throwing an endzone to endzone touchdown pass in the original Tecmo Bowl! Boo bam!

This is the final installment of The Spectrum this year, which means the summer is finally upon us. And you all know what that means: good times laughing at "that guy" who does "the bee dance" whenever there is a yellow jacket within a 10-foot radius of him. I love that guy, he really cracks me up. Especially when he is driving and gets a bee in his car. Actually, that absolutely terrifies me.

Home openers are always important, and this one highlighted some new players' potential, as well as the fact that the Bulls dropped the game to a D-I AA team. Also frustrating was the fact that UB played so well for the first quarter and half of the second before falling apart.

Edit Note: A victory against a Big East opponent is notable, even if it is Rutgers. Many outstanding individual performances highlighted this game. Any victory against a BCS team is something to be proud of, and there were glimmers of hope for a couple of wins, but it was not meant to be. Still, it was a nice win, especially on the road. The Bulls still have a long way to go.

It was a very difficult season for the men's basketball team. It was going to be a difficult season even if the team stayed healthy. They didn't.

The UB women's basketball team was a bright spot in a difficult year for UB's major sports. On Tuesday March 4, UB and Kent State met in their final regular season game with a possible East Division title on the line. It would have been the first division title in modern team history for Buffalo.

Stephon Marbury and the Phoenix Suns put on quite the show Saturday, proving why the NBA Playoffs are just as exciting as ever. In case you didn't watch, the Suns defeated the No. 1 seed San Antonio Spurs by one in overtime. Marbury, the Coney Island Special, hit a bank 3-pointer with no time remaining in overtime to seal the deal. It was a thing of beauty, and the Suns are now the team I will be rooting for to make a run at the title. The odds may be against them in the West, but with "Starbury," Amare Stoudamire (who was in high school last year), Shawn Marion and Anfernee "Penny" Hardaway on the team, anything can happen. And how can you not love the fact that Penny is back in the playoffs? He's just the man! They should definitely bring back his commercials with "L'il Penny."

The NBA Playoffs are upon us once again, but this time David Stern and the NBA have changed it up a little. The first round will now be the best of seven match-ups as opposed to the best of five that we have seen in previous years.
