If you’ve ever forgotten to bring your smartphone somewhere or haven’t had access to it for some period of time, you’ve probably felt the anxiety that can follow. They are the ultimate multitool; between scrolling reels and watching videos, it’s easy to forget how useful it is to have a camera, flashlight, audio recorder, GPS, instant messaging and an actual telephone lodged into your pocket. This one little computer has so many uses that it almost feels taboo to leave the house without your phone.
In 1874, during a snowstorm and behind the walls of a Japanese prison, Yuki Kashima was born with the sole purpose of seeking revenge. Trained from birth to be a skilled assassin, her story of vengeance defines “Lady Snowblood” as a classic of Japanese cinema.
This Wednesday, the women’s basketball team (2-22, 0-12 MAC) hosted a pride night during their game against the Ball State Cardinals (21-5, 13-1 MAC). These two teams have had vastly different outlooks on the season. The Cardinals were coming into Alumni Arena winners of seven straight games and looked to break their tie for the lead of the Mid-American Conference (MAC). The Bulls on the other hand, were looking just to find a win, amid a season filled with difficulties. The game was a very one-sided affair, with the Cardinals securing the win, and sole possession of the lead in the MAC standings. The Cardinals walked out with a victory, with a score of 88-55, in dominating fashion.
On Tuesday night, under the lights of Alumni Arena, the men's basketball team (15-11, 5-8 MAC) walked on the court with one goal: to defend the home court. With the Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament close at hand, every point, steal and possession against the Northern Illinois Huskies (9-16, 4-9 MAC) could potentially carry the weight of the postseason.

On Feb. 14, more than 300 performers with 14 competition and exhibition teams graced the International Fiesta (IF) stage, putting on a stunning performance that left viewers blown away. Through performances with compelling stories and dances filled with sheer energy, this year's Fiesta was an event that UB students will not forget. Although every club poured their heart onto the stage, only a few select clubs were able to receive awards based on their performance, narrative and overall emotion induced.
A $2.4 million grant has kept UB’s teacher residency program going this year but can’t fill the hole that the federal cuts left behind.
This past Saturday, UB held its 44th International Fiesta (IF) centered around the theme “Voices Unmuted.”
Located so close to North Campus that it’s considered part of the campus on UB’s official map, on North John Glenn Drive is the Center for Assistive Technology (CAT).
Throughout my life, I’ve grown to love all things history, fashion and pop culture. I was first introduced to history through the “Who Was…” biography series in elementary school, and as a proud Irish-American, I was particularly drawn to the “Who Was John F. Kennedy?” book. I remember after reading it for the first time, I went on my iPad and Googled the Wikipedia page of the entire Kennedy family to learn more about them and their impact on U.S. history.

In recent years, movies have been labeled as cultural events before they’re even released. We no longer have the option to be curious because we’re being told what to watch and how to feel about it. The constant promotion of trailers, influencer campaigns, brand deals and merchandise creates a fear of missing out (FOMO) for anyone who doesn’t consume every piece of content.
Bulls track and field has had a strong indoor season so far, and that momentum carried into this past weekend at the David Hemery Valentine Invite at Boston University. Going into this meet, the Bulls had already added 32 new runs, throws and jumps to the UB record books, and after the weekend they have come away with 10 more. With top schools from the northeast, like Princeton and Harvard in attendance, the Bulls had their work cut out for them in this two-day meet.
In their first season in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS), the Sacramento State Hornets will be joining the Mid-American Conference (MAC) as a football-only member, the league announced. This is another example of the ongoing realignment of college athletics.
The United States men’s hockey team does not need another reminder of just how dangerous they have become to hockey’s elite. The Four Nations Face-Off final last year against rivals Canada already provided one. With National Hockey League (NHL) talent back in the Olympics for the first time since the Sochi Games in 2014, the Americans enter Milan carrying both the weight of expectation and the harsh reality that “close” has not been enough.
Grammy-winning acapella group Pentatonix member and a solo artist, Kevin Olusola pioneered a unique art of “celloboxing.” A blend of classical cello playing and beatboxing, “cellboxing” doesn’t quite fit anywhere — a central aspect in Olusola’s first solo album, “Dawn of a Misfit.”
Words were not needed to introduce Kevin Olusola.
International Fiesta (IF) is an annual UB event where international and minority student organizations have the opportunity to express their cultures on the big stage. While the performances are visually amazing, IF is about more than just dancing and entertainment. Each routine has a deeper message behind it, often shedding light on issues that tend to be overlooked.
