In the program’s first-ever win against a top 10 nationally-ranked team, UB (2-0, 0-0 MAC) defeated the No. 7 nationally-ranked Pittsburgh Panthers (1-1-1, 0-0 ACC) 2-1 last Thursday. The two teams have played each other every year since 2022, with Thursday’s win being UB’s first victory over the Panthers. The historic win comes just one week after UB’s Aug. 15 home victory over St. Bonaventure (0-3, 0-0 A-10), kicking off the 2024-25 season.

Approximately 830 UB resident physicians, represented by the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD), intend to go on a two-day long strike next month if “negotiations fail to improve” with their employer, University Medical Resident Services P.C. (UMRS) according to a press statement released on Aug. 13.

Rising sophomore and engineering student Maria Eichas died on Burritt Road in Parma, NY, on June 2 at approximately 1 a.m., when 33-year-old Alexander Hackett crashed a Toyota Camry into the rear of Eichas’ Honda CRV. Both vehicles were traveling westbound.

Fourteen pro-Palestine protesters — including seven UB students — were arraigned in Amherst Town Court on Tuesday for various non-criminal violations, including loitering, trespassing and disorderly conduct related to the May 1 pro-Palestine rally held on UB’s North Campus.

Pro-Palestine protester Jazmine Frazier was arraigned on one count of resisting arrest, a misdemeanor, and one count of loitering, a violation, in Amherst Town Court last Wednesday, according to the Erie County District Attorney’s office.

“Symbiosis,” an art collection created by first- and second-year MFA students, is on display this month at downtown Buffalo’s Center for Exploratory and Perceptual Arts (CEPA) Gallery. The exhibit’s name, “Symbiosis,” alludes to artistic connection and collaboration.

Since The Spectrum’s founding in 1950 as UB’s independent student news publication, thousands of students have come and gone. But a few things remain the same: there are still student journalists who dedicate themselves to reporting on this campus, and there are still community members who read The Spectrum and recognize the important role it plays.
