For Indigenous women, murder is the third leading cause of death, often perpetrated by non-Native men. Of the reported 5,712 missing Indigenous women, the U.S. Department of Justice’s federal missing persons database only logged 116 cases. Although these are harrowing statistics, they are rarely recognized or talked about.

UB saw an increase in domestic violence reports and a decrease in robberies and burglaries last year, an annual crime report by the University Police Department (UPD) shows. The federally mandated report highlights the statistics of violent and non-violent crimes on all three campuses — North, South and Downtown — from 2021 to 2023.

Although tucked away between homes and shops, Buffalo’s mural arts scene is not something to overlook. Set in the heart of Hertel Avenue, among village shops and cafes, it’s the perfect spot to hang out and take some pictures. The mural project began in 2017 to highlight Hertel Avenue and expand knowledge of the area.

“The Maid of the Mist,” a popular 20-minute boat tour that features a close-up of the American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, was phenomenally wet, to say the least. Being right by the border between the U.S. and Canada, the tour has grown to be a popular tourist attraction for both those native and far from the state of New York.

In a public alert Thursday morning, University Police (UPD) reported that two UB students were robbed near Creekside Village at 12:40 a.m. by three men wearing ski masks. The suspects had guns that were “possibly fake or plastic weapons” and were described as Black males dressed in black and gray Nike sweatsuits.

UB lifted bans on chalking, anonymous posters and amplification equipment in its recently drafted assembly policies in response to feedback from students and faculty, including the Faculty Senate, as of yesterday. The policy review period is extended for two more weeks with its end date being updated to Oct. 14.
