Edit note
This letter is a response to the letter to the editor published in your Nov. 10 issue ("Protest not meant as disrespect to armed forces").
Although winter has been with us once again for weeks, you could still think that flip-flops were the most popular footwear in Washington D.C. And then you find that they've been outdone by meringues.
A new semester and already the paranoia bug is spreading like wildfire in the bowels of the Student Union.
In your Sept. 30 issue in the article on international students ("UB's international attraction") you quote Steven Shaw, the director of international admissions as saying that international students are attracted to UB because of "their desire to be immersed in the culture of an American university." I would like to challenge that statement based on my own experiences.
It is with some concern that I have been following your coverage of the SA "scandal."
This letter is in response to George Zornick's April 20 column "Affirming the need to overcome."
While it will be up to the legal branch of our student governments, the Student-wide Judiciary, and not journalists to decide if Elevation candidate Mazin Kased acted inappropriately, if they will even hear the case, this is not the main problem here ("Outside candidates face obstacles as election nears," March 25).
Regarding George Zornick's column on Ann Coulter ("Coulter shock," March 2), I must admit that his opening statement did not lead me to expect much reason out of his opinion piece, as most "college liberals" are yet-to-fully-mature and sometimes hopeless and delusional parrots when it comes to politics.
Justin Martin wrote that "Democrats must now focus on how this defeat occurred and what we must do to prevent further defeats" ("Time for Healing Bitter Wounds," Nov. 11). I would say that if they haven't figured that out by now they better do it quick or lose the last bit of credibility they have left. Repeatedly failing to acknowledge their obvious weaknesses will not help them defeat or even compete with Republicans.
This is an appeal to all eligible voters to go and exercise their rights on November 2nd and vote in the general election.
I am writing in regards to your evaluation of the Student Association Executive Board ("Student Association: Five-month Report Card," Oct. 6), which was unnecessarily critical.
This letter is both in response to Gloria Almeida's letter "SA Should Tighten Belt" in the Sept. 20 issue and also in support of the mandatory student activity fee increase, which undergraduate students will be voting on starting Monday.
This letter is in response to the neo-liberal propaganda printed in the April 19 issue of The Spectrum, titled, "The War in Iraq, WMD's and DMB."
In his response in the Feb. 18 issue of The Spectrum to my Feb. 16 letter, Eric Tower again misinterpreted a few items.
The Feb. 13 issue of The Spectrum featured feedback letters that both missed the point of their respective issues.
I am writing concerning your editorial on Student Association Entertainment, "SA Entertainment More Efficient, Well-funded," in the Nov. 17 issue. In an obvious attempt to get back on SA's good side after last week's unjustifiably negative coverage, you claim that the creation of SA Entertainment has improved the student events situation.
In the Nov. 12 article "SA Begins Investigation into The Spectrum's Budget," which should not have been written by a Spectrum staff member in order to retain your objectivity and integrity, you claim to have been singled out for review by the Student Association due to past relations, and that this amounts to censorship.
