My Turn

Vacuous hypocrites

Although winter has been with us once again for weeks, you could still think that flip-flops were the most popular footwear in Washington D.C. And then you find that they've been outdone by meringues.

I'm of course talking about the "naughties" edition of the Democratic Party. After they ran the inventor of the Internet in 2000 and a footwear promoter with a love for ketchup in 2004 general elections, you would think that the leaders of the Democrats would have learnt something.

Despite being a staunch Republican and Christian, I am actually also a nice guy. I therefore cannot help but wonder whatever happened to the party of FDR and an interest in the common man's plight. Whenever they seem to find something resembling a spine or a sense of reality, some Howard Dean type comes along and destroys every advance they may have made.

I would like to think that they are not as un-American and unsophisticated as they seem to be, but at every turn they disappoint me by proving over and over that they are not interested in working for the good of America but only care about slandering "red staters," Republicans and other generally sensible people, and imposing their will on the country by creating new laws through the courts.

At every possible turn, Democratic representatives act against the interests of the majority of Americans on every single issue. They seem to believe that it makes sense to contradict Republican arguments or counteract their ideas merely for the sake of saying no or obstructing progress in the name of some outlandish concept.

After failing to bring home a victory in the 2000 general election, Democrats generally seemed tolerable when they weren't claiming they hadn't lost. Soon after 9/11, however, they started showing their true colors (again) by campaigning for Al Qaeda instead of supporting defensive measures of our homeland and generally started urinating on the collective grave of the men and women who died on 9/11.

When the White House had found conclusive evidence supporting the fact that we could not tolerate Saddam Hussein any longer, Democrats gave President Bush the authority to take us to war, only to back-peddle soon after when the extremist wing of their party, which these days is just about all of their constituents, started complaining.

In late summer 2005, after New Orleans was left to fend for itself after Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Blanco and New Orleans mayor Ray "Chocolate City" Nagin had refused federal assistance, Democrats all across the nation started to loudly demand that White House officials be prosecuted.

When it came time to confirm new justices for the Supreme Court, Democrats did not for one minute attempt to make a serious effort to follow our constitution and instead tried hard to obtain a commitment to legislating from the bench from the nominees in exchange for their votes.

And to take it all home, their hero, the gray lady, endangered national security and fed their media at the same time by exposing a secret intelligence-gathering program. Although many Democrats had known of the program for a long time, they only thought of slandering President Bush once the media had started the myth that for some odd reason the program was illegal. Instead of standing by their much-loved former presidents, Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton, who both had used identical methods to gather intelligence on their enemies, they once again started calling for the administration's heads.

Throughout all these years, if the Democrats proved anything it's that they have no ideas to contribute to the national conversation, that they will endorse anyone who advocates the abolition of moral values and the destruction of America, and that baseless accusations are still their favorite ingredient to speeches, all the while claiming that they care about America.

Knowing all this, how can any sane person still vote for those vacuous hypocrites?
