April 21 was officially declared “UB Women’s Basketball Day” by acting Mayor Chris Scanlon of the City of Buffalo, after honoring the team's historic 2024-2025 season with a mayoral proclamation.
The team set a new season record with 30 wins and brought home their first-ever Women’s National Invitational Tournament (WNIT) Championship trophy on April 5.
“As Mayor, I’m proud to recognize the student-athletes and coaches whose hard work and determination brought pride to Buffalo, the University at Buffalo and all of Western New York.” Scanlon wrote in a Facebook post.
The ceremony, held at Buffalo City Hall, featured three athletes — senior guard Terah Harness, senior forward Ariana Seawell and senior forward Jordyn Beaty — and some members of UB Athletics’ staff.
“Buffalo loves their sports and they [the fans] really, like throughout the whole season, have just been a key determining factor in our wins,” Harness said. “Buffalo just does sports different here.”
