Rucker and Nenova named Athletes of the Week
Seniors Reggie Rucker of the track and field team and Miglena Nenova of the women's tennis team have been named Athletes of the Week.
Rucker broke the Buffalo men's record in the 110-meter hurdles by turning in a time of 14.25 seconds at the Wake Forest Open this weekend. After winning his heat he eventually came in fourth-place and qualified for the NCAA East Championships in May.
Nenova was perfect this weekend in both singles and doubles play as the MAC season opened. Posting a 4-0 record she improved to 14-3 in singles and 18-5 in doubles this year.
Bills trade Spikes and Holcomb
The Buffalo Bills traded linebacker Takeo Spikes and backup quarterback Kelly Holcomb to the Philadelphia Eagles Monday night. In return, the Eagles sent defensive tackle Darwin Walker to Buffalo along with an undisclosed draft pick.
The move will solidify second-year linebacker Keith Ellison's spot in the starting linebacker core. The addition of Walker will bolster the Bills' depth chart at tackle, creating a rotation of Larry Triplett, John McCargo and Kyle Williams.
Spikes marks the third defensive starter to leave the Bills from last season. The team will look April's draft and free agency to fill the void left by their departures and to add an insurance policy at quarterback behind starter J.P Losman and Craig Nall.
Silverbacks season ends in quarterfinals
The Buffalo Silverbacks of the American Basketball Association ended their season this past weekend in Los Angeles against the Aoeshen Olympian.
Buffalo opened a 28-point lead in the second quarter but faltered down the stretch. With a final score of 121-106, the Silverbacks season ended on a sour note.
Former Buffalo Bulls player Modie Cox finished the season averaging 21 minutes a game and seven points per contest for the Silverbacks.
