With a slew of local musicians starting to get some attention, it seems that the next big sensation to come out of Buffalo is living right here on our own UB campus.
Tim Britt, the talented songwriter/guitarist, often juggles his time between being a UB business major and crafting music.
Unlike most musicians, Britt never intended on becoming one. It wasn't until he received a guitar for Christmas, at the age of 14, that he realized his natural talent.
"It came very easy to me," Britt said.
With no formal musical training or lessons, after having his guitar for a few years Britt started writing his own songs.
"I wrote my first real song three years ago," Britt said.
At only 20 years of age, he has already written more than ten songs.
Although most of Britt's songs focus on his personal experiences with love and relationships, many of his songs also tell stories.
"It's honest music," Britt said.
His influences include Dave Matthews Band, Jason Mraz, and Ryan Montbleau. Britt's music doesn't serve to pay homage to these artists, but rather to build on them.
Incorporating his own style into his compositions, he is an extremely competent guitarist and vocalist.
The young musician will be performing at Perk's Coffee House in the Ellicott Complex on Saturday, Feb. 23. The show starts at 9 p.m.
With a refreshingly eclectic set list, ranging from Neil Diamond to Paul Simon, alongside some original songs too, Britt seems to stray from the formula of many other artists.
When asked what goals he hoped to accomplish with his music, Britt said, "I just want to play to as many people as I can."
In an industry where the main goal of an artist is to find money and fame, Britt's down to earth philosophy is what sets him apart from the rest.
