I like the viewpoint expressed about the passport policy. It's a small price to pay for security - and much nicer than wiretaps.
It is definitely not an inconvenience to have to show a passport. Remember how inconvenient it was to bury the dead and clean up the rubble of September 11? I am sorry I had to bring that up, but we already hear about it everyday in the media. That tragic event is why we are at this point.
If it makes it more inconvenient for terrorists and illegal immigrants to move about, I like this passport policy.
I also like the civilian border patrol in the southwest. We should have one across the Canadian border as well. Talk about a security leak! How many potential terrorists come over our unprotected borders? If you want to come into my country, you better take the right route across the border, or you're asking for problems.
I'm not a huge fan of vigilantes, but I'm even less of a fan of an enormous mechanical government that won't permit a civilian body to protect itself. The government couldn't do it, so now the people are taking it into their own hands. People say it's inhumane, but is it inhumane to post 'no trespassing signs' and then arrest people when they come onto your property? Be happy that it's not a free-fire zone. That would be a lot of dead people in no-man's land. If you don't like where you live, then change it and go through the right channels to move.
The world isn't what it was - free movement between countries is a little harder, but it makes the snakes stay under their rocks. A passport that protects your identity and your life is no inconvenience. I wish that politics were different and this situation never arose, but it's too late for that.
So I'm going to go ahead and say. "Close the borders. You want in? Then buy a ticket like everyone else. No free rides."
