UB offensive coordinator Bill Lazor has left the team to take on the position of "Offensive Quality Control" coach with the NFL's Atlanta Falcons, the team announced late Thursday night. Lazor will join the Falcons' staff immediately.
Also, it was announced yesterday that defensive backs coach Clayton Carlin took a position as recruiting and special teams coordinator and safeties coach at New Mexico State last week.
"We are actively seeking candidates to fill the vacant defensive and offensive coaching positions," said UB head coach Jim Hofher. "We have had a terrific response from interested candidates so far."
In other UB football news, the team has set its practice dates for their NCAA mandated 15 spring workouts. The Bulls will begin practice at the Ralph Wilson Fieldhouse in Orchard Park March 21. Spring workouts will conclude with the annual Blue/White scrimmage at the UB Stadium April 12.
Jennefer Brankovsky of the women's swimming and diving team has been named the MAC Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Brankovsky was the backbone of the women's team during their closely contested loss against Cornell last Saturday. She was able to sweep both breaststroke events and also turned in a season-best 2:07.67 in the 200 individual medley. That score was more than a second better than her previous best this year.
Brankovsky, showing her big-game mentality, set seven school records at last year's MAC Championships. This year's championships will be at Bowling Green on Feb. 27.
Women's soccer's Devon Russell was picked by Soccer Buzz Magazine for their All-Northeast Region Third Team as chosen by the players and coaches from 285 Division I women's soccer programs.
She is a team captain and one of the best stoppers on the Bulls' defense. Her tough defensive play helped UB to a 7-8-5 record this past year and a fifth seeding in the MAC Tournament.
