Thursday night the UB women’s soccer (8-2-1, 4-1 MAC) team defeated the Akron Zips (3-5-3, 0-3-2 MAC) 1-0 at UB Stadium. This win sees the Bulls extend their win streak to four.
The Zips came out of the gates strong, maintaining a majority of the possession early. The Zips eventually had their chance at goal when they booted a shot from close range, forcing a brilliant sliding save out of junior goalkeeper Lexie Thompson, who then saved another hard shot half a minute later.
The Bulls found their footing minutes later, when both senior midfielder Sarah Woods and freshman midfielder Adriana Victoriano had good shots on goal. Both were saved, but built Buffalo some momentum. The first half ended with another two shots on goal by the Bulls, but the ball couldn’t find the back of the net.
The Bulls kept knocking at the door of Akron’s goal, and were finally rewarded when 5th-year student Jasmine Guerber beautifully spun away to make space for a 20-yard stunner into the top left corner to give the Bulls a deserved 1-0 lead.
The Bulls held on to that lead to end the game with a 1-0 win. They outshot the Zips 19-8 and dominated the play outside of the first 20 minutes.
For their next fixture, the Bulls will make a trip to DeKalb, Illinois to face the Northern Illinois Huskies (3-5-3, 1-2-2 MAC) at 2 p.m. on Sunday. The game will be available on ESPN+.
