What's going on out there?

For those who took a vacation to another planet on Monday, allow me to fill you in on what you missed.

After never leading for 59 minutes and 59 seconds of the game, after scoring three non-offensive touchdowns, not to mention forcing six turnovers, the Buffalo Bills proved yet again that they are a young team by losing their first Monday Night Football home game in 13 years. Dallas Cowboys rookie kicker Nick Folk drilled a career long 53-yard field goal as time expired (sound familiar?), slamming the door of defeat in Buffalo's face. Now that you are caught up, I can go vomit all over myself.

Whether it involves quarterback controversies, coaching issues, questionable game management, or even what is going on with kicker Rian Lindell, this is not the time to complain. Sorry Marv, but it isn't "right here," nor is it "right now." Instead, I'd rather focus on the positives from Monday night, when an unlikely group of men nearly shocked the world in front of millions of football fans.

I can't remember the last time I witnessed such an amazing football game that can compare to the spectacle on Monday. Don't get me wrong though - I am only 19 years old. I am not a seasoned fan by any means, but I will proudly state that I have never seen such a David vs. Goliath effort as the one that the Bills showed in a game that, on paper, should have been a 57-3 blowout on behalf of the Cowboys.

A team that started third-stringers on defense as well as start a rookie quarterback nearly embarrassed an undefeated Dallas team that, along with their fans, needed to change their underoos after the game was over. Ask Terrell Owens. He knew the Cowboys nearly lost the game, as he looked for most of the match like he was going to cry like a girl who wasn't asked to the prom.

At the end of the day, people have different feelings about the game. Some feel it was a good effort, but not good enough. Other fans I've spoken to have ideas anywhere from firing head coach Dick Jauron, to that they will never watch a Bills game ever again. Granted, some of the play calls such as a reverse on a third-and-one play made me scratch my head, but I still don't feel they were so horrible that a man's job should disappear, or that CBS shouldn't be turned on two Sunday's from now.

We should not turn our heads on this team, but instead we should embrace them. Think about it - the NFL's last-place defense made play after play against one of the NFL's best offenses. We made Tony Romo look like Rob Johnson! When was the last time a Bills fan could say that?

Granted, I feel as if there are always lightning bolts being thrown towards the Queen City by the sports gods, but for the first time in a long time, I feel this loss was actually good for Buffalo, in a variety of ways.

First off, the Bills showed the country that their 1-4 record is misleading. The Bills were winning two games with one second left on the clock and found a way to lose both of them. The Bills should have beaten a Dallas team that many have picked to make, if not win, the Super Bowl. The worst part was that the Bills made it look easy.

Secondly, as much as this loss hurt, imagine the pent-up aggression that the Bills will unleash on the Ravens after a bye week in which the team will sit there stewing. The defense should hit former Bill Willis McGahee so hard that his baby's-mamma across the country will feel the pain.

Thirdly, this team is getting healthier as the weeks go by. If they played this well against a 5-0 Cowboy team, imagine how they can play in the upcoming weeks versus teams such as Jacksonville and the Giants.

In the end, everyone is going to have a different view on what they think about the outcome of Monday's future ESPN Classic game. One thing I know is I was never prouder to be a Bills fan then I was on Monday night. Yes, I sat in shock as I saw the football go through the uprights, but in the end, it doesn't matter. Yes, they moved another step towards a top five draft pick, but they played a game that in a couple weeks, after the mourning of their playoff aspirations passes, they will be able to see all of the positive after-effects from the game.

The Bills lost. It hurts, but we Buffalonians can handle it.

Look on the bright side - no matter how bad the loss was on Monday, it's nothing like the pain that Yankees fans have to deal with.
