With the odds stacked against them, the men's soccer team traveled to Akron, Ohio, to face the second ranked Akron Zips in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
The David and Goliath match-up featured the No. 21 ranked team in the nation against the Bulls, who won only one game all season and have scored just seven goals on the season.
Despite their grim chances, the Bulls worked all week in preparation for the Zips.
"We have been playing up a notch against better teams," said Bulls head Coach John Astudillo prior to Friday's game. "Right now I'm optimistic. I am encouraged by the way the guys are working hard in practice."
However, an upset wasn't in the cards and, as expected, the Bulls season was ended Friday, as they dropped the game 2-0.
Akron's Justin Christafaris posted his 12th shutout of the season. The shutout stretches the Bulls' streak of 562 minutes without a goal to more than 650 minutes and 7 games.
Alex Odwell gave Akron the lead in just the ninth minute, as he scored from 10 yards out.
Midway through the first half UB's Dave Pidgeon hit the goalpost with a shot that would have tied the game. That chance would prove to be the Bulls' only serious threat.
With just nine minutes left the Zips put the game out of reach, when Amico DiFranco took an assist from Pat Beattie and scored from 10 yards out.
Pidgeon, who had four shots in the game, led UB. The rest of the Bulls added four shots, none of which were on goal.
Akron peppered Bulls goalie Chris Vavrina with 10 shots, of which Vavrina was able to stop four.
