The track and field team had an amazing performance at both the Big Red Invite in Ithaca, NY and the Bison Outdoor Classic in Lewisburg, WV this past weekend. They demonstrated outstanding abilities in a variety of events across both meets. With several athletes breaking records, the Bulls are strongly developing as the outdoor season progresses.
At the Big Red Invite, the Bulls did exceptionally well across all areas. Senior hurdler Michael Parks led the way in the 110-meter hurdles, beating his own school record with a time of 13.72 seconds in the preliminaries before advancing to the finals, clutching a win.
Parks wasn't the only one with a successful performance. On the women's side; sophomore hurdler and combined events athlete Linnea Neureuther and junior hurdler Gemma Galligni also ran personal bests in the 100-meter hurdles. The two ultimately ranked among the highest scores in the history of the Bulls program.
The relay performances also stood out. Both the men's and women’s 4x100-meter team finished first with a season-best time, while the women secured second place. As far as the field events, multiple athletes had standout performances. Sophomore horizontal jumper Micah Blair won both the long jump and triple jump, junior horizontal jumper Kara Moran won the women's long jump and senior combined events athlete Krista Perry won the heptathlon and was able to place in the program's all-time top ten.
At the Bisons Outdoor Classic, the Bulls' distance runners set several records. Senior distance runner Noah Brightman ran a personal best in the 1,500 meter, ranking 3rd in program history. Sophomore distance runner Vincent Guaresimo, who also set a new personal record in the 1,500 meters, finished eighth in the program. In the women's 5,000 meter, senior distance runner Vassi Klock ran a 16.49, becoming one of the only three runners in program history finishing with under 16.50. In the 5,000 meter, senior distance runner Bronagh Cassidy also placed among the best times in program history.
In middle-distance events, the Bull continued to show off their athletic ability. Sophomore distance runner Aidan Norris took fourth place in the 800 meter with a season-best time, among many of his teammates who also achieved personal bests. In the steeplechase, sophomore distance runner Ella Reilly showed major improvement, cutting her time by over 20 seconds.
Across both meets, the Bulls delivered great performances, consistent improvement, and broke many records. As the season progresses, Buffalo is gaining momentum and demonstrating that they can compete at high levels in every category.
Track and field next look forward to their home invite at 10:30 A.M. on Apr. 17 at Broadview Arena (formerly Alumni Arena).
