UB’s tennis teams had a successful weekend at the MAC Fall Championships in Western Michigan.

The men’s and women’s teams both took home titles, with the men’s particularly successful in doubles pairing and the women’s in singles.

In doubles pairing, junior Connor Doing and Minjae Kim reached the title game in Flight A for the men’s team but fell in straight sets to Western Michigan’s doubles pairing. In Flight B, the Bulls cruised to an 8-3 win in the title game behind the pairing of freshman Chase Zao and senior Michael Malkin, taking down University of Illinois Chicago’s doubles pairing.

The singles draw also turned out victorious with a title, where sophomore Miko Lapalme won the Flight B title game convincingly in straight sets (6-2, 6-1).

The women’s team were not as successful in doubles with neither pairing reaching the title games in their respective brackets, but their performance in singles made up for the shortcomings.

Junior Sarah Hartel defeated her teammate Aleksandra Kachushkina in straight sets (6-2, 6-3) in the championship match for the singles championship title. Both qualified for the ITA Conference Masters championships held in Rome, Georgia, marking the first time the Bulls sent a player to nationals.

While men’s tennis ends the fall season here, women’s tennis will take on Colgate on Friday, Oct. 30, back home in Buffalo.
