It's a repetitious nightmare terrorizing the local cinema. There's always that one person who laughs so loud and for such an extended amount of time that the next few lines in the movie are missed.
Be prepared for much of the same, as Good Luck Chuck will leave viewers gasping for air with nonstop humor and an outrageously funny cast. With all of these factors in tow, Chuck will have audiences laughing 'til it hurts.
The story centers on Charlie Logan (Dane Cook, Dan in Real Life) who refuses to kiss a goth girl during every adolescent's favorite game, "seven minutes in heaven." As a result, he's cursed by the humiliated spell-caster, and so the story begins.
Years later, all of the women that Charlie slept with track him down and offer their gratitude. To his own surprise, the reason for the thankfulness was due to a seemingly silly rumor: sleep with Charlie Logan and the next man they meet will be their true love.
Women line up left and right in his dentist office to embark on the promiscuous journey to love. At first, like any man, it was a dream come true. But quickly thereafter, Logan starts to despise being Mr. Hump-and-Dump on the heavily-traveled road to destiny.
At one of the weddings of an ex-lover, the bride even makes a toast thanking him for the fruitful fornication.
At this same wedding, the clumsy but cute Cam Wexler (Jessica Alba, Fantastic 4:Rise of The Silver Surfer) meets Charlie. Cam is also referred to as Murphy (as in Murphy's Law) by her stoner brother, meaning anything that can go wrong, will. In short, Cam catches more than just Charlie's attention.
With full knowledge of his reputation, Cam refuses all of his dinner invitations in fear of falling prey to his sexually promiscuous ways.
According to Charlie's plastic surgeon, the breast-obsessed best friend Stu (Dan Fogler, The Marconi Bros.), it's "the most amazing blessing anyone can ask for, to have woman after woman want to sleep with you with no strings attached."
However, after Chuck takes full advantage of the apparent curse that has even been posted on the Internet, things get more complicated. Once Cam decides to accept his dinner invitation, Charlie finds himself falling head over heels for her.
Charlie decides to test the limits by sleeping with some of the most unattractive women he can find in hopes of determining if his curse holds any truth.
Surely enough, even the most obese, distasteful looking women find love with the next guy they meet. Now, Charlie is determined to do everything in his power to have Cam fall in love with him.
Cook, who's more widely known for his popular stand-up comedy, outdoes himself with Chuck, playing a character that needs to be funny, quick-witted and sensitive, all at once.
Alba's great looks and the warm personality that has so vividly defined her as an actress mesh well with Cook, making them a great team in this wacky comedy.
Their sex scenes will put viewers through withdrawal, likely leaving them wanting more and more. This is partly due to first-time director Mark Helfrich's incorporation of humor in each scene, giving the audience both intimacy and comedy in one.
What might be called a must-see movie, Chuck satisfies its audience's appetite by feeding them romance, laughter and enjoyment from the minute the movie comes onto the screen until the lights turn back on.
