The women’s soccer team (5-2-1, 1-1-0 MAC) shutout the Miami University Redhawks (4-5-0, 1-2-0 MAC) with a 3-0 win Sunday afternoon. The Bulls delivered an outstanding performance in front of their home crowd during Alumni Weekend and supporting the fight against Alzheimer’s disease.
This matchup was a part of UB women’s soccer #EndAlz initiative with players wearing purple warm up shirts to spread awareness about the condition. This was a heartwarming tribute honoring those impacted by Alzheimer’s disease. The energy was amplified with many program alumni in attendance. This extra support from the fans helped to inspire even more confidence in the Bulls.
Junior midfielder Laiken Kiser scored twice to lead the Bulls. Her first came in the 20th minute after graduate student forward Jasmine Gueber went for the goal but was blocked by the Redhawks goalie, fortunately Kiser was there for the rebound and made the goal. Her second goal came just after the 60th minute when she captured a loose ball and scored again to double the lead for the Bulls.
Buffalo kept their composure as the match grew intense. Senior midfielder Ashley Reyes calmly converted a penalty kick that put the match out of reach with a score of 3-0. Sophomore goalkeeper Lexie Thompson recorded two saves and put pressure on Miami defensively to help earn the team's 3-0 shutout win.
The Bulls return to UB stadium this Thursday, September 25th at 7:00 p.m. to close out their homestand against the Ball State Cardinals (4-3-2, 1-1-1 MAC).
