UB hosted nearly 1,800 prospective students and their families Saturday as part of the annual Preview Day, which gives admitted students a chance to tour the university's facilities and talk to current students.
According to estimates from the Office of Admissions, the approximately 4,600 guests made up the largest turnout to the event in several years. Last year's rainy Preview Day welcomed a total of 3,148 guests to UB.
After President William Greiner began the festivities with a welcome speech in Alumni Arena, the guests were permitted to walk around the university and obtain information from departments.
Preview Day featured special programs for visitors, including "Questions about Student Life? Ask the Experts," "Academic Advisement and First-Year Strategies" and "University Library Resources."
"It was a success," said Gilat Aharon, a freshman business major, one of over 200 UB students who donated their time to greet visitors and answer questions about UB. "I had a great time helping out on such a gorgeous day."
"I thought that Preview Day was a great way to show prospective students what a great school UB is," said volunteer Allison Reis, a sophomore communication major. "There were many academic and social organization booths set up all around campus, so students could be informed on what is going on in the school."
