A recent trend of violence near clubs, bars and other local hotspots has forced the City of Buffalo to adopt a zero-tolerance policy. The city has closed establishments that put patrons and other community members at risk. Three businesses were forced to close between early December and late January, continuing a cycle started by Big Bad Wolf and Molly’s Pub.
Mango’z
An argument inside Mango’z, a bar located at 577 Forest Avenue, on Saturday Dec. 6 ending violently outside at around 3 a.m. where a man was shot in the leg, according to The Buffalo News.
On Wednesday, Dec. 10, the City of Buffalo issued a cease and desist to the bar, citing its policy of closing places that threaten the health and safety of patrons and community members.
“My administration has made it clear in other instances, whether it be Big Bad Wolf or Molly’s, that we will not tolerate establishments whose operations threaten the health and safety of patrons and other members of the community,” said Mayor Byron Brown in an article in The Buffalo News.
Habibi Sheesha Lounge
On Saturday, Jan. 3, police responded to reports of shots fired near the Habibi Sheesha Lounge at 467 Elmwood Avenue, according to WGRZ. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Two days after the shooting, the City of Buffalo issued a cease and desist order to the hookah lounge.
Impulse Nightclub
At 2 a.m on Saturday morning, a man in his 20s was shot outside Impulse Nightclub in downtown Buffalo at 567 Washington Street, according to WIVB. Authorities believe a fight inside the club sparked the violence that occurred later on the street. In a continuing trend, Mayor Byron Brown and the City of Buffalo issued a cease and desist order to the nightclub.
