This Weekend In Buffalo

James Joyce with Gusto

Fri., Feb. 3 at the Albright-Knox

4 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Free Admission

Why does UB have one of the largest James Joyce collections in the world, including original manuscripts, valued at $400 million? I have no idea, but we do and we're showing it off today at the Albright-Knox. The UB Humanities Institute is presenting the event to celebrate the famed Irish author who has three novels ranked under the Modern Library's greatest books of the 20th Century including "Ulysses" at No. 1. There will be the documentary "Following James Joyce...Dublin to Buffalo," talks with scholars, a theatrical performance put on by the Irish Classical Theatre, and a concert by "Kindred," an Irish musical ensemble. See www.humanitiesinstitute.buffalo.edu for more info.

":18 Project"

Sat., Feb. 4. at the CEPA Gallery

7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Free Admission

New York City photographer Christine Gatti will be presenting her ":18 Project," in which she took a picture of herself and her environment on the 18th minute of every hour of every day since July 2004. If that doesn't spark your interest, CEPA is also opening "Underground Video," a series of video works from five emerging Buffalo artists who take a bizarre look at everyday life. Also, they will be holding its annual "Member's Exhibition," during which awards will be given out to CEPA members who have submitted work to the gallery. See www.cepagallery.com for more details. All exhibits run through March 18.

Buffalo Rapids

Fri., Feb. 3 and Sun. Feb. 5 at Park School

Fri. at 8 p.m. and Sun. at 2:30 p.m.

$10

It's not a typical presentation of art but former Bulls duo Turner Battle and Mark Bortz became the Van Gogh of alley-oops last season. Luckily for Bulls fans, they have the opportunity to witness it once again as both stars have been signed to the local American Basketball Association team, the Buffalo Rapids. The Rapids will be home for two games this weekend and UB Blue and White paint won't go to waste as the Rapids' colors are light blue and white. For the Mighty Maniacs that want to travel to the games, they are held at Park Private School, located at 4625 Harlem Rd. in Amherst.
