UB women’s volleyball scored one win and one loss this past weekend at Broadview Arena, picking up a win over the Kent State Eagles (6-7, 0-2 MAC) in three sets on Friday and a loss to Toledo (10-2, 2-0 MAC) on Sunday.
Bulls’ senior Manoela Forlin and sophomore Hailey Campagna led the way to a strong game against the Eagles on offense with 12 kills each. Along the way, sophomore Maddie Mitchell racked up 37 assists.
Despite the Bulls’ solid start, Toledo defeated Buffalo Sunday in 3-1 across four total sets.
The Bulls began strongly, taking a close first set to start a lead of 1-0. The three stars on offense Friday continued their push Sunday — Campagna and Forlin on offense both eclipsed 10 kills once again, while Mitchell supported with 38 assists.
But unlike Friday, Buffalo struggled to find offense or match Toledo’s attack throughout the rest of the match. Toledo took three straight sets afterwards in a turnaround from the first set.
Sunday’s match was not a complete loss. Forlin entered the weekend needing 23 kills to meet the milestone of 1,000 kills in her career, which she finally hit the last 11 during Sunday’s match against Toledo.
The Bulls will face Miami (Ohio) (8-5, 0-2 MAC) in back-to-back matches Thursday, Oct. 1 and Friday, Oct. 2 at Oxford, Ohio. The matches will be streamed live at 6:30 p.m. on the UB Bulls’ Youtube channel.
