I found your comments on Hassan Shibly ("Life in a fish bowl," Jan. 24) misleading, disrespectful, and carry a tone of promoting cultural, and religious misunderstanding. People are elected based on their hard work to serve honestly and sincerely the goals of the office they were elected for. We elect people not on the basis if they like President Bush or if they approve the war crimes committed by Israel on daily basis.
In fact your comments is a threat to the very spirit of free speech that campuses and Universities around the country strive for. Your comments is intimidating that in order to be elected you should hide your opinion regarding national and international issues, and that in order to be elected you should be hypocritical.
I am so disturbed with your unthoughtful editorial that intimidates people to be dishonest and hide your true opinions. I am also disturbed with false accusation of Hassan Shibly views. He is a peace loving man that would wish peace for all regardless of their race or religion whether they are Christian, Jewish, Muslim, etc.
I believe you owe Hassan an apology for your editorial that can be misleading and disrespectful of our diverse community at UB as evidenced by your cartoon as well. I hope you rise up to your responsibility and do what your conscious, ethical, and moral values call you for.
I appreciate you taking my concerns into your consideration
