Cerminara takes Las Vegas, breaks UB career-wins record
Kyle Cerminara, UB's dominant 197-pounder, once again won his weight class Saturday, this time at the Las Vegas Invitational, and in the process broke Gary Cooper's UB record for career wins, earning No. 114 in the finals match.
Going into the weekend's Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, the tournament's seeding committee seeded three of UB's wrestlers in the top 20.
Cerminara, received the highest ranking out of UB's wrestlers, taking the No. 2 spot in the rankings for his weight class behind Arizona State's Ryan Bader, No. 14 in the nation.
Heavyweight Harold Sherrell nabbed a seventh seed in the tournament while Mickey Moran was named 13th in the 165-pound class.
The Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational is one of the largest tournaments early in the wrestling season with three top 10 teams and over 50 teams across the nation.

Career marks
Seven games into the season, five members of the UB men's basketball team have tied or set career records.
Parnell Smith, a 6-foot 6-inch forward from Indianapolis, has set seven career highs, leading the team for number of personal bests set. The junior had 19 points, nine field goals, and two steals versus Buffalo State, eight rebounds in the Detroit and Boston College games, four free throws versus both Jackson State and Canisius, and three blocks against Canisius. All were career highs.
Team captain and starting senior guard Roderick Middleton has achieved one career high this season with his 22 points against Detroit. The 6-foot-3 University Heights, Ill., native also tied three previous totals in eight rebounds, seven field goals, and one blocked shot.
Not to be outdone, 6-foot senior guard Calvin Cage hit two career highs versus Fresno State with eight free throws and eight assists. Cage also tied a career-high number of threes at Niagara with six.
Also tying highs in their careers are senior forward Mario Jordan with one blocked shot versus Fresno and junior forward Yassin Idbihi tied two other occurrences of 10 field goals at Boston College.
The Bulls will have their next chance to hit new highs on Tuesday night at Liberty.
