Academic all-stars
The overall grade-point average for UB athletic teams for the fall semester was a 3.003. Seven UB teams improved their overall GPAs from previous semesters. The team showing the largest improvement was the baseball team, while the next greatest improvements came from the men's basketball and the women's basketball teams.
The UB women's soccer team had the highest overall GPA at 3.401. Coming in second was the women's cross country team with a 3.346 effort, while the volleyball team claimed the third highest GPA within the athletic department.
Twelve student-athletes were able to achieve a perfect 4.0 GPA for the fall semester.
Farewell after four
UB head volleyball coach Sally Kus resigned following a four-year stint as head coach of the volleyball team, citing time constraints as the main reason for her departure.
Kus stated in a press release that she felt she was unable to provide the kind of commitment that the volleyball team needed from a full-time coach at this point in the program's development.
Kus said the volleyball team requires a full-time head coach, and although Kus was offered the position, she declined and decided to resign after four seasons as head coach.
During her career at UB, which began in November 2001, Kus had a record of 32-88. The team's best conference record during her tenure was 5-11 in the 2003 season.
This past fall, the Bulls ended their campaign with an overall record of 8-22 and a Mid-American Conference record of 1-15.
Iced over
The Buffalo women's swimming and diving team was unable to make it to their meet at Niagara due to inclement weather. All was not lost however, as the team competed in what was called a "phone meet." Both teams competed in their respective home natatoriums and phoned the results to each other. The scoring was not official.
