Men's Tennis
The men's tennis team faced three top teams at the Bonnie Duals, held at St. Bonaventure University this past weekend. Overall, the Bulls played tough but finished 1-2.
In Saturday's opening match, the Bulls fell to Manhattan 4-3. However, Buffalo showed their competitiveness by dominating 2003 America East champion Binghamton on Sunday with a 4-3 victory. This match lasted more than four hours and the Bulls then immediately returned to the court to face host Bonnies, the defending Atlantic-10 champions, and fell 4-3.
Nick Ziezula was rock solid for UB, going 3-0 over the weekend in second singles. Randy Rocchio teamed with Ziezula on the team's top double's group to go 2-1.
The Bulls current record is 2-4 overall, and are preparing to face Cornell and Army at 9 p.m. on Sunday in Ithaca, NY.
UB Skiing
The regular season came to an end for the UB men's and women's ski teams over the course of Feb. 14 and 15.
Injuries and slip-ups plagued the men's squad, who were already without stud Nick Capicotto, but they were somehow able to manage a seventh place finish out of 12 teams. Despite Brendan Spitz' back injury and Jason McGibbon's broken hand, the squad pulled through to bounce back from their eleventh place standing on day one. Nate Stock, Brendan Spitz and Greg Rhoads picked up the slack for their fallen comrades.
The women's team finished fourth place (out of ten) on the weekend, but were not without debilitating injuries of their own. Natalie Heck fell and tore her ACL, not to mention suffering a chipped femur. Jessica Walsh excelled in placing sixth overall for the day.
