Alumnus shares new book with alma matter

David H. Brown, an alumnus who earned his bachelor's degree in 1965, is sharing his latest mystery novel, The Elusive Driver, with the students of his alma mater.

After earning his master's degree in 1970, Brown went on to write math textbooks and teach at Niagara Community College for 33 years. Brown combined his interest in the community and his love of math to create the fiction novel.

"The lead detective is a mathematician and his partner is something of a play boy," Brown said. "You have one serious and analytic person who has to deal with a carefree partner that's chasing girls."

The prime suspect is the personal chauffeur of the individual who turns up dead, Brown said.

Brown purposely made his mystery solvable for intelligent and eager readers that wish to play along.

Local readers can expect to see places they know, as the mystery is set across Western New York and Southern Ontario. Buffalo, Rochester, and Niagara Falls provide a backdrop for the murder and the detectives attempting to solve it, according to Brown.

Brown will be available for book signings on Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the University Bookstore.
