UB women’s soccer team defeated the Canisius Golden Griffins (3-2-0) in a 2-1 Wednesday at Broadview Stadium, improving to 3-2-1 on the season.
Sophomore forward Gabriella Capra buried her first career goal when she scored the Bulls’ first goal in the second minute, with freshman midfielder Emma Patti and sophomore midfielder, forward Jayda Schoburgh credited with assists.
Canisius failed to score under the Bulls’ pressure throughout the first half, and the Bulls retained a 1-0 lead into halftime.
The pressure switched when Canisius tied the game 67 minutes in; junior forward Azaria Fagan scored off of senior defender Mary Molloy’s free kick.
But Buffalo silenced Canisius’ momentum five seconds after. Senior defender, midfielder Eva Blatz found the back of the net from just inside midfield off an assist from senior defender Eva Poissant, putting Buffalo back in front with 2-1.
The Bulls held on for the win, also finishing with a 14-2 advantage in shots and a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal. Senior goalkeeper Lexie Thompson sealed the victory with one save.
Buffalo will close out their non-conference schedule by going against the Lafayette College Leopards (1-2-3) Sept. 10 in Pennsylvania. The game will be streamed live at 7:00 p.m. on ESPN.
