The Bulls softball team (17-20, 6-6 MAC) split a doubleheader against the Miami (OH) RedHawks on Friday before falling in the series finale on Saturday at the Nan Harvey Field, in Amherst NY. The highlight of the weekend however came in game two, when the Bulls defeated the RedHawks for the first time since 2018.
Miami took the first game of Friday’s doubleheader 10-3. The Bulls recorded nine hits in the loss, with junior outfielder Reagan Terwilliger tripling and driving in a run, while sophomore outfielder Nicole Allen added a run batted in (RBI) as well.
Buffalo responded in game two with a 9-5 win, using an excellent third inning to take control of the game. The Bulls scored seven in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run from senior first baseman Abbey Nagel and a two-RBI single from junior third baseman Bri Delaney. Terwilliger added a two-RBI double later in the inning as Buffalo broke the game open. Nagel finished game two with four RBIs, while Delaney had three RBIs.
On Saturday, the RedHawks won the series finale 9-0. Miami scored seven runs in the second inning and the Bulls were unable to recover from the deficit. Buffalo also only had one hit the whole third game.
Despite losing the series, Buffalo’s game two victory was significant. The Bulls beat the RedHawks for the first time in 8 years and showed they can compete with anyone in the Mid-American Conference (MAC).
The Bulls will begin a three game series with the Massachusetts Minutewomen (11-21, 3-9 MAC). Game 1 of the series will begin on Tuesday, April 7th with first pitch scheduled for 2:00 PM at the Sortino Field in Amherst, MA.
