The Bulls track and field teams turned in a strong performance at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Indoor Championships, collecting six medals over two days in Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
UB opened the meet on Friday with a silver medal in the men’s 4,000-meter distance medley relay, with a team composed of sophomore distance runners Collin Stafford and Aidan Norris, freshman distance runner Michael Huebner and senior distance runner Noah Brightman. The team crossed the line with a time of 10:07.91. Later in the day, junior runner Cameron Bogdan placed fifth in the men’s 5,000-meter race with a time of 14:36.64. On the field side of the meet, junior horizontal jumper Kara Moran secured a fifth place finish in the long jump, with a mark of 5.78 meters.
On Saturday, Buffalo added five medals, highlighted by senior hurdler Michael Parks, who defended his MAC title in the 60-meter hurdles and set a new school record of 7.83 seconds. Parks is the only Buffalo runner to win the event more than once at the MAC Indoor Championships. Sophomore jumper Micah Blair also got silver in the triple jump, while sophomore jumper Nicalis Williams took the bronze, both jumping 14.58 meters. Norris added to his accolades with bronze in the 800-meter race, crossing the line at 1:52.68. Sophomore jumper Ryan Cardichon would add the final medal for the Bulls when he finished third in the high jump, reaching 2.08 meters.
At the conclusion of the event freshman thrower Dominic Weatherly was named the MAC Indoor Freshman Field Performer of the year following a personal-best throw of 15.31 meters.
Overall, Buffalo placed fourth on the men’s side and 12th on the women’s side to close out their indoor track and field season. The Bulls will be back in action outdoors on March 19th at the Fred Hardy Invite in Richmond, VA.
