The semester is finally coming to a close, and once finals are over, we know what it's like to be searching for something to do to fill your time. We present to you an abundance of options of holiday movies to keep you occupied this winter season.

Die Hard

Yes, it is a Christmas movie.

The Muppet Christmas Carol

I was wracking my brain for pretentious film major Christmas picks, like Sean Baker’s “Tangerine,” but honestly, I can and will re-watch “The Muppet Christmas Carol” every year. An adorable version of “A Christmas Carol” fit for everyone, with a hilariously serious acting performance from Michael Caine – possibly the best Scrooge ever. Also, I would highly recommend theater and live orchestra showings of this one; it’s so wholesome and Christmas-y.

Emmet Otter’s Jug-Band Christmas

OTTERS!

How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000)

My mom and I watch it every year, it’s a tradition in my household. And, it’s funny as heck!

  • Amy Aracena, Managing Editor

The Santa Clause

As a little kid, the inquisitive kid who was always asking “why” wanted to know the origin story of Santa. If you have little siblings, be sure to bring up the NORAD Santa tracker this year.

It’s a Wonderful Life

A classic 1946 Christmas movie with classic vibes. Nothing feels more nostalgic than putting on a black & white holiday movie and being reminded of a life lesson or two.

The Year Without a Santa Claus

The stop motion animation style has such a nostalgic feel. I watched this movie every year growing up, and it holds a special place in my heart.

Home Alone

That classic movie that the teacher puts on in elementary, middle or high school when it’s obvious that the entire class is ready for winter break. It’s iconic, heartwarming and overall a joyful time to see the burglars get what is coming to them.

Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer

I love the animation style and the drama! Like what do you mean Grannie got run over for an insurance claim?
