The man accused of shooting New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd in Manhattan last month was arrested near UB’s North Campus early Monday morning, according to US Marshals in a press release sent out Tuesday.
Frederick Green, 20, of the Bronx, was arrested by the New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force at an apartment complex located close to the North Campus during an attempt to flee New York City.
Boyd, 29, Nov. 16 in midtown Manhattan, when Boyd and his friends got into an altercation with a group of men who had made fun of their clothing outside of a club.
Boyd was taken to the hospital in critical condition but has been recovering.
Green was confirmed to be in a second-floor apartment and was seen peeking out the apartment window looking for an escape avenue but retreated inside, according to the release. He exited and surrendered to authorities as tenants were evacuated in neighboring apartments. Sources told WGRZ that Green was staying with his girlfriend, a local college student not connected to the incident.
University officials told The Spectrum that it would be “inappropriate” to confirm or deny whether or not the girlfriend was a UB student without a specific name.
Green was arraigned in court Tuesday, where he was charged with attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon.
Police did not respond to The Spectrum’s request for comment by the time of publication.
