Buffalo men's basketball (3-0, 0-0 MAC) followed up its home win on Saturday over the Green Bay Phoenix (1-2, 0-0 HLC) with an impressive road victory at DePaul (2-1, 0-0 Big East), defeating the Blue Demons 66-53 on Tuesday night at Wintrust Arena in Chicago.
The Bulls were able to carry their momentum from the Green Bay game into Chicago, jumping on DePaul early. UB’s defense was stout in the first half, holding the Blue Demons to a modest 18 points and also forcing a total of 20 turnovers. The Bulls led by as much as 21 and went into halftime with a 36-18 lead and never looked back.
Junior guard Ryan Sabol once again led in scoring, finishing with 20 points on six of 16 shooting while also adding four assists. Sophomore guard Daniel Freitag scored 18 points and had six boards, while senior guard Angelo Brizzi added 14 points and three steals. As a team, the Bulls shot 41% from three and scored 22 points off the Blue Demons 20 turnovers.
DePaul cut the lead to single digits late, but Buffalo’s composure and teamwork sealed the 66-53 win. The Bulls’ defensive effort and veteran backcourt continue to set the tone early in the season.
Buffalo improves to 3-0 and will return home to face the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers (0-1, 0-0 Liberty League) on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Alumni Arena. The game will be available to watch on ESPN +.
