United We Dance had Electric City on fire with their transcendent stylings of electronic music on Friday, Sept. 12.
Inside the intimate venue, which featured an open bar, a VIP balcony and candle lit dining area, guests were greeted to an immersive rave-like experience. Rave-goers wore rave attire which included glow-in-the-dark accessories such as glasses, bracelets and headwear. One partygoer even wore light up sneakers.
Music was more than just something to dance to this night — it was a journey. The venue was lit up with bright stage lights that buzzed around like lasers in sync with the music. Conducted by Adonix and Hess — 2 members of United We Dance quartet — they brought the crowd through high energy sets of hard techno and house music. They blended classics, deep-cuts and hit songs from artists such as Skrillex, Fred again.. and John Summit.
Adonix, who is from San Diego, California, played a bass intensive, synthetic tech house set. His creative transitions kept the crowd jumping on their feet, headbanging their way through his almost two hour set. Each drop was seismic, as the crowd roared in thrill to their delight.
Hess, who is from Richmond, Virginia, played a pulsating progressive house and electronic house set. His style was fast paced, keeping the crowd on their toes. When Hess used effects, they were dynamic and never once a dull moment. Drops were loaded with bass, thundering eardrums around the venue. The crowd couldn’t contain their excitement.
Ravers who attended were diverse, varying in age from 18 and older. There were friend groups, couples and solo dancers alike. United We Dance prides themselves on being an inclusive atmosphere, focused on creating community wherever they play, according to their website.
While many rave-goers were Buffalo residents, there were plenty of UB students in attendance.
Steve Fuentes, a junior nursing major, attended the rave with two of his friends. They found the rave to be a night to remember. “It was fun. It was my first time, the DJ was good, the music was nice,” he said.
Completely enamored by the night, they were imminent to keep partying. “The only downside is that it was over, you know what I’m talking about? We need to keep going!” Fuentes said.
Ravers were swept off their feet. During the duo’s closing set, they chanted their hearts out to Cascada’s 2006 classic, “Everytime We Touch.” A poetic ending to a musical adventure.
