Four parties win SA Senate seats for ‘25-26

Candidates from ‘Unity4UB,’ ‘The Student Voice,’ ‘UB Forward’ and ‘Engineers ‘R’ Us’ take the 12 spots

SA Senate '25-26 election results

In a rare competitive election year for the undergraduate Student Association (SA) Senate, the candidates from the “Unity4UB,” “The Student Voice,” “UB Forward,” and “Engineers ‘R’ Us” won the 12 elected seats for the ‘25-26 term. Nineteen candidates were in the race. 

Approximately 1,089 undergraduate students in total have voted, according to election results The Spectrum obtained.

All “Unity4UB” party candidates secured the top five spots with promises of bringing transparency to the relationship SA has with clubs. Aidan Thomas led the group with 418 votes (8.73% of total). Sierra Fernandez was a close second with 402 votes (8.39%). Arya Dixit received 385 votes (8.04%); Gavin Krauciunas at 361 votes (7.53%); and Piyush Ohri at 348 votes (7.26%). 

The entire “The Student Voice” party also placed in the top 12 with a platform of diversity and advocacy. Rima Saeed had the highest out of the group, with 257 votes (5.36% of total). Ismat Haque received 253 votes (5.28%); Grant Peterson at 249 votes (5.2%); Michelangelo Fontana at 233 votes (4.86%); and Aeaad Alawaad at 224 (4.67%). 

Joshua Brodsky took seventh place overall, running under  the one-person party,“UB Forward,” with 255 votes (5.32% of total). He had called himself a “dark horse candidate,” running on a platform of fair representation and student engagement.

Adam Bilali, one of three candidates in “Engineers ‘R’ Us,” came in tenth at 237 votes (4.94% of total). The party promised to bring a smoother experience to clubs, including improving SA’s purchasing system and adding transparency. 

The SA Senate — 12 elected senators and 12 ex-officio voting members — control a $4.5 million budget funded by the $109 mandatory student activity fee.
