The UB football team fell to 0-4 for the first time since 2005 after losing 45-38 to the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns on Saturday night at Cajun Field.
The 0-4 start also marks the fifth time in its 25-year Division-I history that UB has failed to win a non-conference game, according to WIVB. This last occurred in 2005, when UB went 1-10 under Jim Hofher.
Last season, UB started 0-3 before going on a 7-3 run to finish the season with a Camellia Bowl win.
In his third season, head coach Maurice Linguist holds a 8-8 record in the Mid-American Conference (MAC), and a 3-10 non-conference record.
In Saturday’s loss, UB was outgained 518 to 373, despite holding possession for over 33 minutes. UB’s graduate quarterback Cole Snyder went 17/34 for 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Sophomore running back Mike Washington carried the ball 13 times for 88 yards, and redshirt freshman tight end Cameron Bell reeled in two catches for 51 yards.
UB’s defense again looked ineffective, allowing a whopping 269 rush yards. UB has allowed over 200 rush yards in three of the four games this season — and over 150 rush yards in that fourth game. The Bulls have allowed at least 38 points in all four losses. UB’s average point margin against Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) opponents sits at -18.7, good for No. 118 out of 133 FBS teams.
The Bulls are running out of time to right the ship, with conference play beginning on Sept. 30 at noon against Akron (1-3) at InfoCision Stadium. Last season, UB handed Akron its 10th loss in a 23-22 win in the regular season finale.
