Record-breaking snowfall and travel bans in parts of Erie County led to the game's postponement.

Snowfall topping six feet in some areas of Western New York forced the Mid-American Conference to postpone this weekend’s matchup between UB (5-5, 4-2 MAC) and Akron (1-9, 0-6 MAC). The game was scheduled for Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at UB Stadium.

Although North Campus received far less snow than areas south of Buffalo, the MAC remained concerned with travel conditions. The town of Amherst remained under a travel advisory Saturday evening, according to a tweet from Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz. A travel ban is in effect for southern Buffalo and towns in central Erie County.

"The safety of the student-athletes and fans is paramount,” MAC Commissioner Jon Steinbrecher said in a statement. “We want to be respectful to the efforts of the emergency personnel in the Buffalo area who continue to assist those in need.”

If the game is not made up, UB will finish the season with seven MAC contests. If necessary, the MAC will utilize its uneven number of games tiebreaker policy to determine the MAC East winner.

The policy is utilized if multiple teams have the same number of losses but different win totals, the teams’ game totals are within one of each other, and the teams have played each other at least once.

In an uneven number of games tiebreaker scenario, the Bulls win the MAC East if Bowling Green (6-5, 5-2 MAC) defeats Ohio (8-3, 6-1 MAC) on Tuesday, Nov. 22, and UB defeats Kent State (4-7, 3-4 MAC) on Saturday, Nov. 26.

In this scenario, the Bulls would finish 5-2 in the MAC. Their two conference losses would equal Bowling Green’s and Ohio’s. The first tiebreaker is the head-to-head record between the three teams. In this scenario, all three went 1-1 against each other.

Additionally, UB would have defeated Kent State. Since Bowling Green and Ohio both lost to Kent State earlier this season, this would give UB the edge in the MAC East and a berth in the MAC Championship Game on Dec. 3 at Ford Field in Detroit.
