Maurice Linguist has been named head coach of the UB football team.
Linguist’s hiring was announced Friday, with an introductory press conference scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday at the Murchie Family Fieldhouse.
The 37-year-old Dallas native was hired as co-defensive coordinator/defensive backs coach of Michigan in January, and is now set to become the fourth-youngest head coach in the nation.
A former safety at Baylor from 2003 to 2006, Linguist coached defensive backs at UB from 2012 to 2013. He has experience as a defensive assistant for Valdosta State, James Madison, Buffalo, Iowa State, Mississippi State, Minnesota, Texas A&M and in the NFL for the Dallas Cowboys.
Linguist’s arrival will usher in a new era of UB football, as he replaces 57-year-old Lance Leipold, who was hired as Kansas’ head coach last week.
Linguist helped Texas A&M produce top-six recruiting classes in 2019 and 2020, and is now faced with the challenge of retaining the eight Bulls who have entered the transfer portal following Leipold’s departure.
