UB men’s basketball (1-1) was defeated 78-74 by Army West Point (3-0) on Saturday afternoon inside “Bubbleville” at Mohegan Sun Arena.

With 4:31 remaining, it looked hopeful as UB held a 74-70 lead, but the pressure built as the Army defense tightened. The Bulls failed to score for the rest of the game, giving way to Army’s 8-0 run.

The Bulls came into the matchup aggressively, with 22 total fouls called on the team by the end of the game, allowing Army to shoot crucial late-game free throws. UB shot 45% from the field compared to Army’s 51%.

Junior guard Ronaldo Segu led the team, scoring 18 points alongside four rebounds, three assists and four steals in a game-high 39 minutes. In just 24 minutes, junior forward Jeenathan Williams scored 15 points with seven rebounds and five assists. Williams continues to impress this season after his 28 point, 12 rebound double-double from Friday’s game against Towson.

Senior guard Jayvon Graves struggled against the Black Knights, shooting just 31% from the field in 37 minutes of play. He scored 13 points, grabbing six rebounds and had two assists. Senior center Brock Bertram played just 20 minutes but scored 4 points and grabbed five rebounds.

Junior guard Josh Caldwell led the way for Army, posting a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds. Senior forward Alex King added 16 points, 8 rebounds and four assists.

In a game of back and forth, UB struggled down the stretch, missing six shots in the last four minutes. The Bulls were down 44-42 at halftime but couldn’t seem to match Army’s intensity, scoring just 32 points in the second half.

UB will look to bounce back in its next game when the Bulls face Bowling Green on Dec. 6.
