Top junior college transfer commits to UB

Malik Zachery chooses UB as his new home

One of the top junior basketball transfers in the NCAA is on his way to Buffalo next season.

Chipola College point guard Malik Zachery had offers from 16 schools and narrowed his options to Ole Miss, California and UB. Yesterday, Zachery announced his decision to commit to UB on Twitter. Zachery has three years of NCAA eligibility remaining, which makes him a valuable asset to UB’s program.

He’s the second player to commit to UB’s incoming class, the other being 6-foot guard Chanse Robinson from Louisiana. Zachery is a Syracuse native and attended West Genesee High School. He attended Commonwealth Academy in Springfield, MA after receiving no scholarship offers out of high school and, after one year, Zachery transferred to Chipola College in Marianna, FL, where he averaged 8.5 points, 5.8 assists and 3.9 rebounds per-game during his freshman campaign, leading the Indians to a 27-5 record.

Zachery is considered a true point guard and possesses a lethal mid-range jumper in his arsenal. He is also praised for his playmaking high basketball IQ.

He will join UB’s three point guards, junior Jayvon Graves, sophomore Ronaldo Segu and incoming freshman Robinson.
