Ice skating by Canalside in downtown Buffalo is just one of the many activities you can do during the month of February.

February, though short, can be packed with events. It starts off the spring semester, has everyone’s favorite romantic holiday and brings students to one of the most exciting college weeks – spring break. But don’t count down the days yet – first, enjoy some of these events around Buffalo.

Fun-a-day

If the cold weather is keeping you from getting involved with the Buffalo community, Fun-a-day might help. Fun-a-day is an open-ended event that you can participate in without ever having to leave the warmth of your apartment or dorm.

In order to participate in Fun-a-day, you must do something you love every day during the month of February and document it. What you decide to do is totally up to you.

To participate, email buffalosugarcity@gmail.com by Feb. 1 with your name and a description of your project. The exhibit of submitted projects opens Thursday March 24.

Blue Man Group

The world-renowned group of three guys who don’t talk, paint their faces blue, and play instruments while making the audience laugh will come to Buffalo this February. The Blue Man Group has been performing for more than 25 years and more than 35 million people have seen their shows.

They will be performing at Shea’s Performing Arts Center on Main Street from Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday Feb. 14. Tickets range from $32-62, depending on how close or far away from the action you choose to sit.

Andrew Schulz

Andrew Schulz is a comedian who hosts five different shows on MTV including “Guy Code” and “Hip Hop Squares.” He performs regularly in New York City and will be showcasing his blunt comedy style at the Helium Comedy Club in Buffalo this February. Grab a couple of friends and relieve some stress by laughing.

Tickets range from $15-30, depending on which night and which time you choose to go. Tickets are the cheapest on Thursday and the afternoon shows are cheaper than the evening performances.

Parade

If you love downtown Buffalo and an excuse to party all day, Artvoice is presenting their 20th annual Mardi Gras Festival on Feb 17. Bracelets to get in are $5 and afford patrons entrance into all 13 Allentown venues that will be helping to host the festival, including Fat Bob’s Smokehouse, Cantina Loco and Q Bar.

The best part about this event is that all funds from the wristbands will be donated to the Lifeline Foundation, which helps provide necessary medical supplies to the Erie County Medical Center. Drink for a cause, buy wristbands, and enjoy a Saturday downtown.

Ice skating

Whether it’s your first time on the ice and you fall a bunch of times within 10 minutes or you’re a seasoned expert, ice skating is a great activity to get some exercise and get you into the heart of Buffalo.

There are multiple places to go, including Canalside, and UB offers ice skating at the rink across from the Student Union – it could potentially be a really cute Valentine’s Day date.
