Volleyball (12-4, 2-0 Mid-American Conference)
The Bulls have a five-game winning streak for the second time this season. Buffalo will try to extend this number on the road this weekend at Ohio (9-4, 2-0 MAC) and Kent State (8-7, 2-0 MAC).
Buffalo got off to a 2-0 start in MAC play last weekend against Bowling Green (3-11, 0-2 MAC) and Miami Ohio (8-6, 1-1 MAC) at Alumni Arena. Junior outside hitter Tahleia Bishop was named MAC East Co-Offensive Player of the Week Wednesday, after recording 36 kills last weekend.
The Bulls play Ohio Friday and Kent State Saturday. Both games are set for 7 p.m.
Women’s soccer (6-2-1, 2-0 MAC)
The Bulls received their highest NCAA ranking in program history Monday afternoon. Buffalo currently ranks No. 66 in the country.
After allowing eight goals in their final two nonconference games, the Bulls have returned to their defensive dominance. Buffalo has shutout both Kent State (6-3-1, 1-1 MAC) and Ohio (4-6, 1-1 MAC) to begin MAC play. The Bulls have not started 3-0 in conference play since 1999.
Buffalo hosts Bowling Green (1-8, 0-2 MAC) and Eastern Michigan (6-2-1, 2-0 MAC) at UB Stadium on Friday and Sunday, respectively, this weekend. It will be the team’s first home game since Sept. 19. Friday’s match is set for 7 p.m. and Sunday kicks off at noon.
Men’s soccer (3-7)
Buffalo defeated Houghton (5-5, 1-1 Empire 8) 2-0 Wednesday in its final nonconference game of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Cameron Hogg posted his first career shutout in the victory.
Hogg and senior goalkeeper Waleed Cassis have posted very similar numbers this season, but Cassis is coming off a performance in which he made no saves and allowed five goals in a 5-0 loss to Cornell (6-2-1), while Hogg is fresh off a shutout.
But head coach Stu Riddle will have some time before deciding on his goalkeeper for the next match. The Bulls host Western Michigan (5-3-1) next Friday, Oct. 10, in the Bulls’ first MAC game of the season.
It will be interesting to see which goalkeeper Riddle starts, as it could be an indication of who will be the starter for the rest of the season.
The Bulls’ game against the Broncos is set for 7 p.m. at UB Stadium next Friday.
Women’s basketball
Head coach Felisha Legette-Jack signed an extension through the 2018-19 season Thursday. The Bulls are 29-33 overall and 18-16 in MAC competition in two seasons under Legette-Jack. Buffalo went 17-13 last season and entered the MAC tournament as the No. 4 seed – its highest seed since joining the conference.
