"Filling Roster, Quinn Adds Linguist to Defensive Staff"

The football team has added a new face to the ever-changing coaching staff at Buffalo.

Maurice Linguist was added by head coach Jeff Quinn to take on the role as defensive backs coach, replacing Ernest Jones, who left Buffalo to take a spot on the staff at Notre Dame.

"We are excited to have Maurice join our staff," Quinn said. "He is a rising coach in the business who will help us to continue to develop our secondary. He was highly recommended and received high praise for his teaching abilities. He understands what it takes to graduate our student-athletes and help us compete for championships."

Linguist was poached from Football Championship Subdivision (formerly 1AA) team James Madison. Coaching the safeties, he led the Dukes to an 8-4 record last year and an appearance in the NCAA playoffs.

Prior to his tenure at James Madison, he spent time at Division-II power Valdosta (Georgia) State coaching the defensive backs and special teams to a 9-3 record and a ranking of 12th in the country in 2008.

A native of Texas, Linguist was a star player at Baylor University, earning All- Big 12 honorable mention as a strong safety in '06, and was a second-team conference all-academic honoree.
