Hailing from a town where the cows outnumber the humans, I never imagined I would be writing for a student newspaper at a university with nearly 30,000 students as potential readers of my words.
I've always wanted to be a writer, but in the Fall of my junior year I found myself doubting my three-year commitment as an English major. My love of photography and passion for helping others overpowered my English interests, and I was convinced that I needed to change my major.
I joined The Spectrum the following Spring to rekindle my dying flame with writing and from there I rediscovered my long lost literary love. It was invigorating to be amongst talented students that were so driven to pull together a great paper.
I started as a staff writer for the Arts Desk where I was able to combine my strong interests in music and the arts with my writing. From there, I was thrilled to hear that people liked my work and was completely humbled when asked to return as a senior life editor.
Though I am sad to say I am no longer with the Arts Desk, I'm excited to see where the Life Desk is headed. With a fresh team of editors, I am looking forward to working with them to provide the UB community with stories that are meaningful and enriching.
I thank The Spectrum for getting me back in the rhythm of writing.
I'm a senior English major and I'm happily stickin' to it.
