Demetri Martin discusses very important things

The king of awkwardly hilarious comedy has returned with his second season of sketch comedy with Important Things with Demetri Martin on Comedy Central.

"Personal experience. For example, I used to have this joke in my act about not being able to spell banana. Now, when I'm writing, I can't help but laugh when I forget how many nana's to put," said Martin.

'When I notice something is frustrating or interrupting my daily pattern, there's usually a joke in it. I can see it as an annoyance, but I've learned to see it as an opportunity,' said Martin

'When I got older I started to realize how important my notebook was to my daily life, just jotting ideas down. I realized it can be easier to illustrate things sometimes graphically rather than verbally. Then I got some pretty good feedback on it,' Martin said.

Apart from his sketchpad, Martin regularly incorporates the use of his trusty acoustic guitar like a funny Dave Matthews without annoying fans.

"I found that music punctuates the tone of the comedy, it helps to set the tone and mood; it makes it more fun," Martin said.

Since the success generated by Important Things first season, Martin has begun his transition into feature length films. Last year Martin starred in the leading role of Taking Woodstock.

'It was a challenging experience working on the movie because I couldn't change any of the words, and I had to interpret somebody's work and portray that character based on that text. However, I like film because it moves at a different pace and you have more time to figure out what you're doing and compose your story,' Martin said.

Demetri Martin is one comedian who stands apart from the rest. His individual flavor of comedy makes his projects a cut above the rest. Make sure to check out all the hilarity on Important Things with Demetri Martin, Thursdays at 10 pm on Comedy Central.
